Travel information

Getting to Ghent (from Brussels National Airport or a Brussels train station)

Take a train to Ghent St-Pieters station. The journey time from the centre of Brussels is around 35 minutes, from the airport 50 minutes. For information about train timetables, click here.

Getting to Het Pand from the train station (St-Pieters): 20 minutes (15 minutes tram + 5 minutes walk)

Take tram #1 in the direction of the city center (it is indicated; the end stop is "Evergem/Wondelgem"), from platform 2 to the right of the main entrance of the station (see here for a map of the platforms). Tram #1 runs every 6 minutes during the day. After about 15 minutes, get off at the stop 'Korenmarkt' in Sint Niklaasstraat. Walk towards the church (of St. Niklaas) at the end of the street. Turn left (so the church is on your righthand side) and walk straight along Cataloniëstraat, which turns into Sint-Michielshelling. Follow the street as it crosses the canal. At the end of the street, with the church of St Michiel to your left, turn left into Onderbergen. A short distance further along the street, you will see Het Pand on the left hand side.

Getting to Hotel Gravensteen (conference hotel) from the train station (St-Pieters): 20 minutes (18 minutes tram + 2 minutes walk)

Take tram #1 in the direction of the city center (it is indicated; the end stop is "Evergem/Wondelgem"), from platform 2 to the right of the main entrance of the station (see here for a map of the platforms). Tram #1 runs every 6 minutes during the day. After about 18 minutes, get off at the stop 'Gravensteen' (next to the castle). Walk a bit further along the road (Burgstraat) until it crosses two small streets, one on either side. The one on your left is Jan Breydelstraat. The hotel is on the corner of that street (Jan Breydelstraat 35).

NB: This information is correct as of 15/05/2014. Due to ongoing construction work, changes to the tram schedule are not infrequent.

More information on how to get there: www.delijn.be (in Dutch), or more specifically, http://reisinfo.delijn.be/reisinfo/.  Fill in "Gent" in the first gap of the Vertrek frame and click on 'station'. Then fill in "Station Gent Sint Pieters" in the second gap. In the Aankomst frame fill in "Gent" again in the first gap and leave it specified on 'adres'. Then type "Onderbergen" and "1" and click on 'Bereken uw route'.

Getting around in Ghent

There is a good bus and tram network throughout the city (see www.delijn.be), and tickets are valid on both tram and bus. Tickets cost 2 euros if you buy them on the bus (you cannot buy them on the tram), but you can also buy your ticket in advance at the train station or at the "De Lijn" shop in Cataloniëstraat (near Korenmarkt in the center). A ticket valid for one ride costs 1.60 euros, a ticket valid for 10 rides costs 9 euros (90 cents per ride). You will find ticket vending machines outside the station. For a full map of trams and buses in Ghent, click here.

Ghent is pretty manageable on foot as well, however. All hotels suggested on this website are in the center of town, as is the conference venue. For a map of the city, click here (or many other websites).
